The companies' origins date back to 1968 when Dr. Norman Alpert, Chairman of the University of Vermont Physiology and Biophysics Department began the first Lionheart Technologies subsidiary, BioTek Instruments, Inc., Biomedical Division. Dedicated to providing test equipment solutions to the hospital safety and quality assurance markets, BioTek's Biomedical Division grew to become one of the largest and most successful companies in the field until its sale in late April 2002.

Since the introduction of the first Laboratory product in 1981, BioTek Instruments, Inc. has emerged as a global leader in bioanalytical, and laboratory systems. BioTek provides highly advanced research and clinical instrumentation products and services with 100% customer satisfaction, thanks to the dedication and vigor of our highly skilled employees throughout the world.
